How install

Installing into an individual computer

Installing into a individual computer is very simple. Just leave the installation script as it is set and take a guided walk to the end. At the end of the installation there will be run a connection manager, where you will try connection to the database and start the programme.

Installation into a client computer

On the client computer run installation and in the Select Components dialogue, select the Client installation. Further keep everything preset. When you install the Firebird database you can select the option Client connectivity only.
At the end of the installation there will be started the connection manager, where you will need to configure a connection to the server. To do this, to the connecting chain you need to enter the [server name]: [full path from the perspective of the server to file portal.gdb] for example: srv01:c:\Program Files\Companys Calendar\portal.gdb To check, click Try to connect. If no connection is successful, try to find a solution in possible complications.
When being successfully connected it is recommended to click on the Save As ... and save the configuration to a flash memory or other portable media for easier installation into other stations.
At other stations proceed in the same way, except for clicking in connection manager on Load From... and select a configuration from Flash memory. This way you will reach the same connection set at each station as it has been done from the first client installation.

Installing into the server

On the server start the installation and in the Select Components dialog select the server computer. Keep other settings as they are set.

Installing into the Terminal Server

When installing the first user proceed in the same way as when installing into an individual computer. At the end of the installation test successful connection in connection manager and save it by clicking on Save As ... the Flash disk for further use.
By this the terminal server installation is completed and all users of the terminal will have an icon to start the program in the Start menu displayed. If you first log under a different username in the Windows, the program will find it and you will be prompted to enter the configuration file. This configuration file is stored on your Flash Disk from the end of the installation.
Do not forget to subscribe to user access from other stations and log in with new user names.

Possible complications

  • database unavailable may be caused by the following reasons:
    • Firebird Server Default Instance is not installed
check the Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services if it is installed and run the service Firebird Server Default Instance
    • Firebird Server Default Instance is not running
check the Control Panel-> Administrative Tools-> Services if it is installed and run the service Firebird Server Default Instance
    • Your computer is protected by a system firewall.
      Solution: Enable port 3050
    • Your DNS server does not distinguish database placement
Start-up Manager connection and write before the connection string localhost:
The result will be as follows:
localhost:C:\Program Files\companys calendar\portal.gdb or switch the path onto the location where the file portal.gdb is.
  • error while trying to open file path in the connection string does not match the path of the file portal.gdb
  • Your user name and password are not defined, this error occurs on the computer where the database administrator changed the password for SYSDBA user or you have entered the wrong username or password:
    Default settings:
    Login: SYSDBA
    Password: masterkey
    solutions:
    • enter the correct username and password in connection manager
    • Run Connection manager. On Tab Firebird there are described next steps to add a new user.
  • unsupported disk structure error is caused by installing the older version of Firebird or Interbase.
Solution: Uninstall the older Firebird in a way that you open the Control Panel-> Add or Remove Programs and uninstall Firebird or Interbase with all components. When asked to remove the DLL libraries answer YES to all. Furthermore, re-run the installation of Company's Portal and install the program again. (Newer installation includes advanced Firebird server installation so select this option at the installation) If, for some reason, you need to use the older version of Firebird, in the download files download database file for the older database Firebird 1.5
  • CHARACTER SET WIN1250 is not defined
first, restart your computer, or at least service Firebird Server Default Instance.
If the restart does not help, this problem may occur on a computer with Windows XP, which was not updated at least on Service Pack 2. Installing the library is automatically a part of the Firebird server, but it will be realized only if there is Windows Installer (Windows Installer) on your computer at least version 3.0. This part of Windows is in charge of the management of installed programs.Version of the installation services can be displayed a console order MSIEXEC. Windows XP without Service Pack 2 contains Windows Installer 2.0 only, therefore libraries will not be installed and the Firebird server is not working properly then.
Solution: First, the computer needs updating the Windows Installer. The version 3.1 can be downloaded and installed, for example, from this link (a file called WindowsInstaller-KB893803-v2-x86.exe at the bottom of the page). Another option is to update a full Windows XP, at least to the level of Service Pack 2. After you install the updates, restart your computer.
  • R6034 Firebird installer did not find the installation software Windows Installer ver. 3.1 or higher. First, It is necessary to install the Windows Installer, and then repeat the installation again.
  • Other problems can be removed a manual reinstallation of Firebird database. First uninstall the Firebird database server from the Control Panel -> Add or Remove Programs -> Firebird. Then download Firebird ver. 2.1 and install it manually.
  • another error, click on help with the connection and send an error message
